New members should simply print and fill out the CSGL Membership Application found on the league website (www.csglkc.org). Once you have filled out and signed your membership application, mail your check for $135 to our Treasurer. Checks should be made payable to CSGL. Please note for returning players, the fee to join the league will be $145 if your check is mailed after February 17, 2024. Players must complete an application every year.
The fee for joining the league in 2024 is $135 for new members and returning members who mail their application on or before February 17, 2024. In addition, you will be responsible for green fees at each event you play. Green fees (including cart) will vary from $34 to $75 in 2024 and average about $45. Prize monies excluding the optional skins pot will be paid from league registration fee.
90 to 95 percent of league revenues (coming from the entry fee) are paid out to members in prize money. Prize money is awarded at each official event for the best six low net scores in each of the three flights and closest to the pin on par 3s. In addition, the season is divided into a first and second half with prize money awarded to the top fourteen finishers in match-play point standings in each flight (the number of places and amounts paid may vary depending on funds availability).
Prize money won at an official event is available at the next event. First half prize money is awarded at mid-year. Second half prize money is awarded at the year-end event. All prizes are awarded in cash; however, to comply with USGA amateur status rules, any player may request that his competition prizes be awarded as a gift certificate.
To be eligible for league membership, you must be at least 50 years old during the calendar year and agree to play to a course handicap of 20 or lower.
Each of the 12 scoring events consists of two-person head-to-head matches. However, because prize money is awarded for low net scores, each match is played under modified USGA stroke play rules. Six points are at stake in each match: two points for most holes won on the front nine, back nine and front and back nine combined. Points are accumulated from match to match and standings are posted on the league website after each event.
The league does not use the USGA handicap system. To establish a league handicap, we ask new members to provide their most recent 8 scores with the course played and the color of the tee box they played from. In addition to the 8 scores, we use only your league scores going forward. Regardless of calculations, each player agrees to play to a course handicap of 20 or lower.
League membership is made up of a wide variety of skill levels and ages from 50 to over 80 (active seniors). The league will appeal to serious golfers who enjoy friendly competition in tournament conditions using USGA rules.
Events are normally held every other Monday starting in April and ending in September. Some events may be held on consecutive Mondays or even a different day of the week in rare instances due to course availability or holidays. Every effort is made to hold the events on alternating Mondays.
No. But to benefit fully from league participation you should play in most events. Points are awarded at each event, so the more events you play, the more opportunities you have to compile points. If you miss two or three events in either half of the season it will be difficult for you to rank high in the match play point standings. You must compete in 10 events to be eligible for the season-long low net and low gross awards.
If you know you can’t play in a scheduled event, it is your responsibility to notify the Tournaments Director. It is very important that you do this as soon as possible because pairings for matches must be done in advance. If you do not play in an event and don’t notify the Tournaments Director, pairings have to be adjusted at the last minute, possibly delaying the start of the event. To cancel, email the Tournaments Director. If you are a “no-show” for two or more events (do not play and do not provide advance notification) you may be suspended from the league.
Team formats are designated for the opening and season-ending events. Historically, the team events are not head-to-head match play, but rather foursomes using one of a variety of formats. Handicaps are used. Individual scores in these two events are not used for handicap calculations.
One hundred dollars is awarded for holes-in-one and double eagles. There also is an optional skins game at each event. Each player puts $10 in one of three skins pools (one for each flight). Individuals making the low gross score (with no ties) on a hole divide the money in the skins pool.
Our goal is to complete rounds in four and a half hours, and we have adopted several local rules to speed up play. Statistics compiled by the league indicate that while some individual rounds exceeded five hours during an event, many rounds were completed in 4hrs and 30min or less. We will continue to emphasize pace of play in the future. Players are encouraged to not spend excessive time looking for lost balls. If a group falls a hole behind the group in front of them, players are expected to speed up their pace.
